Ashley grabbed his arms back as she steadied herself on her feet. “Thanks.”
“Anytime.”
Leon returned a very brief smile, before taking a step back to observe their surroundings. Ashley was letting go of his arms when she noticed rivers of red dripping down his water-resistant shirt. She slowly followed the trail up to what looked like a horrible gash wound on Leon’s shoulder. Her heart jolted in a panic, when did that happen?

“Leon?” she called out. Panicked, Ashley looked around, but saw no one. Where was he? Did he leave? Maybe he found another machine to remove the parasite?
Worried, she crawled off the chair, only to have her heart lurch again in panic when she saw Leon laying on the ground nearby, unmoving and looking even more sickly than she had last seen him.

Ashley leaned back on her seat. “Well, you’re not wrong. What about you? Do you like sweets?”
Leon shrugged again. “I like gum.”
The response was so strange Ashley couldn’t help but laugh. It felt like it wasn’t a real answer and he was trying to get her to smile. Not that she minded, she definitely was in good cheer now that they were miles away from that cursed village. There was a small smile on Leon’s face, he was in a good mood too. As absolutely fucked as this whole situation was, it was fun being with Leon like this. It almost felt like they were on a road trip and on vacation.
Maybe it would be fun, just to pretend it was just that for a while.

After a moment, her eyes adjusted to her surroundings.
“Oh,” Ashley breathed, tears still streaming down her face.
She was home, in her room. She was safe, she was fine. But somehow, she didn’t feel better.
It had been eight months since her kidnapping and the events in Spain. Such a long time, but at the same time, just not enough. There was one person she knew she would feel completely safe with, but Ashley hasn't seen him since they parted ways.

The restaurant was quite empty when she entered, there were only a few people sitting at the tables in the corners. Somehow, Ashley got the impression that maybe her dad had bought out the whole place for her meeting with him and just filled it with undercover bodyguards, but that didn’t matter.
