Summary
“I’m sorry for how crazy we got with you, when we were all in the middle of it,” she says, looking down at the table.
“It’s ok, we all get a little crazy sometimes when we’re desperate to get what we…want,” Buck replies, trying to wave it away. He can’t help frowning a little.
“Coming to your work, that was just so – you were helping us, and we embarrassed you, I just – “ Kameron cringes.
“You ever look back on things you’ve done and think, there’s no way that could be me that did that, how could I ever do that?”
Buck chuckles. “Oh, only like, every second day of my life.”

Summary
Buck looks up from his bottle, slightly startled. Eddie’s face is soft in the low light of the kitchen, half-smiling but with a glint of concern in his eyes. Sometimes Buck feels insanely proud of him, of the work he’s done, of how much easier he finds it to be unguarded these days and he wants to say it; but it would be weird to go around saying it all the time. It’s something you say if the conversation goes there, if you’ve already been through something emotional, not because you just saw an expression on their face.
“Uh,” he half-chuckles. “Nothing interesting.”
Eddie inclines his head a little. “I’m interested.”
*
Eddie and Buck talk in Eddie's kitchen late at night, after a long shift. Things not talked about for a long time are finally talked about, at Eddie's dimly lit kitchen table, and an unnamed, inevitable something is headed towards.

Summary
He looks over Buck’s shoulder and his eyes widen. “Can I come in?”
Buck nods, and steps aside. He watches as Eddie’s jaw drops at the sheer amount of candles he’s found and lit. “Is it too much – I know it’s kind of cliché but I just thought it would be nice, y’know, for tonight – ”
Eddie pulls him into another kiss, cradling his face. “No, no, no, I love it,” he says when he pulls back, with a pleased, fond grin. “I mean, this is definitely a fire hazard. But it’s a very romantic one.”
Buck chuckles. “Yeah, with our luck, we’ll end up burning down the loft. Which would be a pretty embarrassing way to need to get rescued by another house.”
“Or worse, our own,” Eddie adds.
*
Buck wants to make sure Eddie's first time is special. The future is sighted, and the past discussed. Twenty-four hours are passed lazily and with much warmth.

Summary
“You’re in a suspiciously good mood, Buck. You’re only like this when you’re feeling very good about someone,” Chim says, squinting at Buck from the firehouse dinner table. “You dating again?”
Buck attempts nonchalance, trying not to look over at Eddie, over on the couch. He’s making coffees for him, Eddie, Chim and Hen because he’s in too much of a good mood to say no. And perhaps because even though before it would’ve been fine, now it feels way too suspicious to single Eddie out, like they’re gonna see his little heart-eyes.
“No?” he says, fake-confused. Not hard, when people usually expect it. “Can’t a man just be in a good mood?”
Chim wrinkles his forehead in suspicion. “This isn’t just a good mood. I’m afraid you’re going to break out into song at any moment.”

Summary
“So, what’s new with you?” Chim asks, as they tuck into breakfast. He really likes this diner, he and Eddie had discovered it a while ago, but somehow, he hasn’t been able to get anyone else to come here yet. So, it’s kind of like his and Eddie’s thing, which is nice, in a way he might not admit soberly.
It’s just due to life – both of their kids, his partner, other family – they don’t always have time to catch up one on one outside of work. Which doesn’t mean they never do, but he knows he sees Hen more, obviously as she’s his best friend. And Eddie seems to spend a lot more time with his own best friend outside of work. He’s sure Eddie’s aware of why Buck’s so happy right now, but like a good best friend, he’s not saying anything about it.
But maybe Chim will get him to crack.
*

Summary
“Alright, see you,” Hen says from her own, and watches him go. Once he’s gone, she turns to them, the only other two in the room. “He’s twitchy. I feel it. Are you going to say anything tonight?”
Buck grins at Eddie, and honestly, she’s putting it down to the fact that Chim’s maybe been around their whole vibe too long and hasn’t had her experience at clocking other queer people, that he hasn’t picked up the fact they’re together. Because if you’re aware of that, it’s so blatantly obvious even just in the way they look at each other – where Buck’s eyes light up, and Eddie’s look ten times warmer – that it’s become kind of a private running joke with her and Karen that they look at each other like that and they have so much of their lives together and yet they’re somehow not together yet. Except they are now. And she has kept her word and didn’t tell Karen until she was able to tell Eddie she knew and he told her it was ok – which was tough because she desperately wanted to say something – but she’s hoping they’ll tell people tonight.

Summary
“So, you excited for us to visit?” Sophia asks, from her rectangular screen on Eddie’s phone in their sibling group chat video call. Getting time to orchestrate a group chat across three time zones is an effort, but they’d managed it. She’d only started the group chat for them a while back, when they started making more of an effort to catch up with each other again. Eddie might not love the growing number of group chats he’s now currently a part of, but it makes him smile to see messages and stupid internet things from his sisters, even if he frequently has to get Buck or Ravi to explain the references.
Eddie gives an exaggerated sigh. “I mean, I guess. Might be working. You can find things to do in LA right?”
Sophia sticks her tongue out at him, reminding him that she might be twenty-seven, but she’s also still a bratty seven-year-old at heart.
*
Eddie's sisters plan a visit to LA to see their brother, beloved nephew, and finally meet the guy their brother's dating. Wine is drunk, bad ideas are hatched, drunk karaoke is performed, and Eddie's missed them a lot.

Summary
“And you know, Chris is doing great in school,” he continues, and there’s a little crease in his forehead, something in the corner of his eye even though he looks happy enough. “Got nothing to complain about.”
Maddie raises her eyebrows. “You sure about that?”
“Yeah,” Eddie says, just a hair too casually, and takes a sip from his drink. She watches him. He looks back up at her. “I have a beautiful boyfriend with the kindest, biggest heart imaginable, and we’re raising a really amazing kid together, and my job might be hectic sometimes, but I really love it. What kind of asshole could complain about that?”
*
Six months into Eddie's new relationship, Eddie and Maddie drink wine together, bond and discuss similar fears over remarrying, and how their first marriages have affected them.

“Don’t look now but I think our parents are in conversation,” Eddie says, and Buck groans, as they sway together.
“Damnit, I knew this was gonna happen sooner or later.”
“You don’t think they met before the ceremony started?” Eddie asks.
“No, my sister and yours were running point.”
Eddie chuckles. “I see. I guess it was inevitable.”
Buck looks down at him, only two inches on him but it makes a difference when they’re standing this close. “We could still make a run for it. Irish goodbye this whole thing. Chris is already going home with Hen and Karen.”

Summary
“You just…you looked really happy with Teo’s little sister. And Dad looks like that whenever we babysit Jee. Like you guys want one too. Do you want one?”
“I –” he starts, and then figures best not to lie. “I don’t know yet.” He pauses. “How would you feel about that?”
“Um,” Chris says, thoughtfully. “I kind of always wanted a sibling. I just thought it probably wasn’t going to happen, with Dad being single and everything. And then you guys got together, and everything was going on with the wedding and stuff.”

“I’m grateful because I feel like – I didn’t make it easy to talk about yourself with me. About how you were feeling, who you were –” his dad starts, quietly rueful.
Eddie shakes his head, unsure how to feel. The urge to smooth things over wins out. “Dad, we – we went through this when I came out to you. You don’t have to keep apologising.”
“But I do,” his dad replies, and his voice shakes. Eddie turns to him, and he’s a little surprised to see his expression so genuinely regretful, like he’s feeling some intense emotion he can’t just let go.

Buck considers it, then shakes his head. “Yeah, but that’s just gonna get confusing. What if she needs to tell Chris that he can only tell Dad about something, but Dad will freak out if he finds out? Imagine if she told the wrong one of us.”

Buck waves a hand in front of himself dismissively. “Oh no, I’ll be the one she tells. C’mon.”

Summary
His first instinct, weirdly, is to say no. Luna’s always on the ball, and she always gets directly to the point, and she’s never distracted. But even as he thinks about the opposites, he thinks about how many times she forgets to put on her shoes unless he reminds her, or the way she tells stories in a long rambling kind of way. He loves that about her, it’s adorable.
“Um, I guess so,” he finds himself saying. “But that doesn't mean anything, right – like, a lot of kids are like that when they’re her age.”

Seven year old Luna's teacher gives Buck some advice about her, and Buck spirals.
