We regret to announce the death of Earl Barok van Zieks on the night of October 6. He passed peacefully in his sleep and was found the following morning by his companion Dr. Albert Harebrayne with whom he had shared a residence in the countryside of East Sussex. Born in 1866 into a long line of prosecutors, he continued the family tradition and graduated among the best students of his year from the University of London in 1889. The shining success of his career as a prosecutor is often dimmed by past allegations of vigilantism and ties to a serial murder case and as such, Earl van Zieks stayed out of public light until his retirement in 1927. He re-emerged as a financial supporter of both the arts and sciences and entrepreneur in the field of viniculture and wine trade. With his death at the proud age of 91, the United Kingdom loses a historic figure in its justice system and associates and family are left to mourn a devoted uncle and friend.
