Summary
So now George is going to be stuck in the Arctic, certainly frozen in during the winter on the ships thanks to the ridiculous weather up there, for several years. This would be bad enough were he not also to be stuck up there, under those already difficult circumstances, with a man who has both seen him naked and since decided to stop talking to him because the stress that all of that caused him was too much for him to cope with.

“I can only hope that what I am going to say next won’t cause you any offense or discomfort,” Edward carries on, turning towards him and putting his hand on the inside of George’s elbow, “and if I’ve misinterpreted your behaviour with me — not just now but these past months — then I truly apologise for that, but I have— these past few weeks especially I’ve found myself to be… to be more and more attracted to you.”
“Oh, thank God,” George says, before Edward gets the chance either to try to backtrack out of it or misinterpret George’s silence. “I’ve felt just the same, no doubt for as long as you have, Edward, but of course I haven’t been able to… I haven’t wanted to act upon it, rather, for fear of causing you discomfort and placing myself in a thoroughly untenable position for the next few years.”

Finally, though, he clearly knows the rest of the men — the remainder of the hundred and fifty-odd souls that had set off in 1845 — better than Crozier knows them. He knows them better than Crozier, so wrapped in himself that he missed probably countless opportunities to head off Hickey’s mutinous designs, could ever hope to know them.
And what’s more, Henry knows it, too; he feels a small, burning pleasure at the fact that Crozier isn’t the man that the rescuers have been asking questions about the expedition members to. It’s Henry instead, and he hopes, absolutely desires, that Crozier is completely aware of that fact. Hopes it poisons him from the inside like whatever the hell it was he poured down James’ throat.

Summary
Back on shore in England, the remaining crews of HMS Erebus and Terror are discharged to the care of their families. For some of the rescued men, this is about as good as it is going to get considering their recent experiences. George, on the other hand, has yet to convince himself that he isn't about to completely ruin both Edward and John's lives: a problem which is not exactly helped by his poor relationship with his own family and the fact that Edward's older sister has kindly offered to put all three of Terror's original Lieutenants up until they are ready to be on their own again.

George seems to be surprisingly cheerful after what had seemed to be a terrible ordeal for him — more so, really, than Edward is for himself. Not that Edward isn’t happy, of course: but he has suddenly found himself handed a great amount of new responsibilities.
He had expected that; even had most of a year to prepare for it. But of course he hadn’t been prepared for actually holding the baby for the first time. Not physically, really, but not emotionally either.
