”You know, there was a guy I met in Sumeru. He was a lawmaker that really liked playing cards.” Yoimiya says, her face alight with an incandescent glow. “His birthday is two days from mine.”
”Is that how you make friends now? Ask them their birthdays?” Thoma quips, and she gives a bark of laughter.
”No, that’s pretty weird.” She shook her head. “The traveler just mentioned it in an offhanded comment.”
”That’s pretty weird too.” He tells her, his green eyes aflame with mischief. “Just spend your birthdays together.”
She stops twirling the little firework in her hand and actually ponders the idea. Would one match and a brief introduction justify crossing a sea for a birthday? The thought gives her pause— until she gets to the part where she wonders why she needs a justification for her actions. After all, the beauty of being an adult is independence and personal autonomy.
”You know what?” Her lips curve into a smile. “You’re right.”
