“This is my first unofficial road trip,” she finally answers. “And considering the start, I hope for it to be my last.”
Jon smiles again. “You can’t let a northern blizzard decide how many road trips you’ll take in the future.”
“It’s faster to fly.”
“The whole point of a road trip,” Jon corrects slowly, “is not to get somewhere quickly. The point is the journey.”

Take a canceled flight (or five). Add two stubborn exes, a questionable consumption of coffee and candy, a dog having a damned good time playing chaperone in the backseat, and one 24-hour period shut up in a truck with nothing to do except look at the scenery and talk about your feelings.
This is not the trip that Daenerys wanted.
(But perhaps, as it turns out, it is the one she needed.)

“We can’t have everything we want. That’s not how any of this works.”
“I know.” He sighs, tiredly resting his head against the frosty glass of the car window. Just across, there are still ghostly shadows of the Valyrian letters she’d drawn with her finger earlier imprinted on the frost. Beyond the window, the morning sun has gilded the rolling white hills of the North, golden illumination against the pale wintry sky. “But I’d like to pretend for a little while that none of this was a mistake.”
Surprisingly, he hears her laugh before he feels her slip her small, warm hand into his.
“I know a thing or two about mistakes. Don’t you dare tell me that this is one of them.”

Some things take time to repair.
While driving north for an unplanned holiday, Jon just never thought his relationship with Daenerys Targaryen would be one of them.

“I think,” she finally says, “that I wouldn’t have it any other way. I like this version of you, Jon. I like this version of me. Yes, there are some things about each of us that are never going to change. But then you wouldn’t be the stubborn man I’ve come to love. And I don’t think I’d be the woman you asked to marry you.” She gives him a long look. “Unless you do wish I was someone else? Let me know now before I start shopping for a wedding dress.”
He laughs.
“I want you,” he confirms. “I just…”
He trails off. Dany smiles.
“You have me. Whatever else there is…we’ll deal with it.”

Daenerys and Jon have come a long way since a snowstorm brought them crashing back into each other's lives again. And if there's one thing they've learned, it's that anything worth having is worth fighting for (questionable tastes in overpriced lattes aside).
