Summary
Now, Xie Lian felt that same want to give, to provide, only this time it was coming from Hua Cheng. The hands on his back were unpracticed like his own had been, but that didn’t matter. That had never been the point of it all. The point had been what it represents.
This small act, while seemingly easy, was actually quite taxing to perform. Holding one’s arm out without support for so long proves difficult over time, and continuously moving it around while still outstretched is even more so. On top of that, one misstep and the one meant to be falling asleep could be woken up, either by being tickled accidentally or by suddenly having a weight on their back. The feather-light touches are so nearly unnoticeable that they easily allow the receiver to slip away into dreams amidst their work.
All of these thoughts swirled through Xie Lian’s head as Hua Cheng’s fingers moved down his back, no rhyme or reason to their destination.
aka Xie Lian's mom used to trace his back when he couldn't sleep, and Hua Cheng's love language is (sometimes non-sexual) body worship.

Xie Lian rolled his eyes, playfully pushing at Hua Cheng’s shoulder, “San Lang teases too much.”
“I'm serious,” Hua Cheng said, though a smile graced his face. “The day that Gege gave me food,” he smiled, “—it was the first time I felt your presence since you ascended, and it was one that seemed to care for me even when the world told me I was dirt.”
“So, it really meant that much to you when I cared that you were fed?”
“More than you could possibly know.”
