Summary
Cal Kestis was not born for War. It is a simple fact, no matter his skill with a lightsaber, no matter the opinions of others.
War is a cruel and harsh, something that twists a person's nature until something gives in and shatters.
He was not born for war, not born to be a soldier or killer, but nonetheless he was born as something more. Something beyond a Jedi, something beyond Life.

Summary
Cal takes the first opportunity to escape Bracca that he can find, burying the last remnants of his past in a muddy grave.
It just happens that this opportunity is a stormtrooper recruitment program, and although a lone trooper can be easily forgotten in the chaos of the galaxy, retirement is not so simple.

Summary
... killed for no reason at all.
Cal sees how quickly people forget what the Jedi truly stood for– how readily they forget every petition they pushed for, every town they tried to save, every child and elder pushed into battle. And– it hurts, the way they forget the children. The fact that he is still a child, that he was one of those that fought for them, branded a traitor. He doesn’t want them to forget, that children died for their sins.
He begins to write. He writes about himself– about everyone else. Every memory he has, of the creche, the temple, the war. Everything he remembers about others, other Jedi, other Brothers, the refugees.
And one by one, the galaxy takes note.

Summary
He has always thought more like a soldier than like a Jedi. He reaches for knives and blasters first, before he does his lightsaber. Working against the once-Republic has not changed that he is GAR to his core. The purge tore a rift in him, and he can never quite accept that everything- everyone- he once knew is gone.
One more year, he always thinks- one more year, and I can go home. Like an undercover mission with no end.

Summary
The cable doesn't snap, and on a whim he takes the broken astromech home instead of turning it in with the rest of the Jedi Fighter.
He regrets repairing it. It doesn't believe him about the troopers betraying the Jedi. It is, in fact, rather determined to be returned to its battalion.
Prauf telling him to find his destiny wasn't enough to make him leave Bracca, but he might just end up doing so anyways.

The Force calls, and Cal answers. Apparently, it wants to stick him in one of the galaxy's many deserts. This desert just happens to contain answers to some long-forgotten questions... in the form of a lost medic lost to time.
As it turns out, some simple facts weren't so truthful after all.
