Summary
Clone Force 99 did not work alongside regs often. It was better that way, for everyone involved really. While Hunter and Tech maintained a certain level of civility, Wrecker and Crosshair were less inclined to even try. They were entertained to see how far they could push before achieving a reaction. Which is frustrating to Tech, given that, even behaving himself, he inadvertently irks regs in his proximity.
Hunter gently tried to speculate that Tech’s predisposition to verbalize his mental processing was not well received.
Crosshair eloquently translated, “You’re kriffing annoying sometimes.”

A week ago, Shep had asked the Batch to go on a supply run. They are leaving in an hour, and Omega isn’t packed yet. Not that she needs much, but typically, she’s the one ready to go the night before.
“Omega,” Hunter says, rapping his knuckles on the door frame of her bedroom. “About ready?”
Sprawled across her bed, his sister, freshly sixteen, looks up from her data pad and heaves an exaggerated sigh. “Do I have to go?” Her tone is on the verge of a whine.
Hunter gapes, surprised by…well, all of it. “What?”

Something drags him from the depths of sleep. In the fragile beginnings of consciousness, Crosshair is aware of someone watching him. When he turns, he expects to see Omega in his doorway, plagued with another nightmare. Instead, he finds his oldest brother. The man’s posture is wrong, shadowed form haggard and unbalanced.
“Hunter?” Crosshair sits up.
Hunter takes an unsteady step back. “Sorry. I just needed…” his voice trails off.
“What?” Crosshair prods.
“I needed a visual,” Hunter finishes feebly.

They are the creatures out of their flash training courses about predators throughout the galaxy. Creatures that stalk, watching their prey’s vulnerabilities, then lashing out, tearing through flesh and bone.
