Summary
After the early failure of the Hollow Knight plan, the Pale beings decide it best to continue raising the former “Pure” Vessel as their own child while they work on a different solution to the infection. To ease the guilt, at the very least.
Their child's presence has them return to the birthplace debris to scour for any survivors. Of the thousands, only two children survive their injuries and join their sibling in the palace.
Years later, a ghost walks out of the Abyss.
