  Ren Brook learns that the vampires he read about as a child are real, and fulfils his lifelong dream of joining them. But now he has to face the consequences of his teenage imagination – the Lord of the Shadows will rise again, and it has something to do with him. Can he stop the wheels of fate in the next ten years, or will he be distracted by the feelings he has for his new friend, Larten Crepsley?

  (in Part 1, Ren begins to earn his place in the vampire world, and navigates the beginning of a relationship with Larten.)
