Summary
Adam prefers to keep his anger in a hard, white-hot rock in the pit of his stomach. But when he feels pissed off at everything, he goes to Monmouth, because there’s no surer thing in the world than the fact that Gansey can piss Adam off like nobody else.
“I do wish you liked me more, Adam,” Gansey says, and maybe it’s Adam’s one hearing ear deceiving him and warping the tone, but he sounds dejected. Maybe he’s just sad that his favorite toy doesn’t want to play with him. “Because it would be so much nicer.”
“You like everything to be nice, don’t you?” Adam starts.
“I didn’t mean to say that.”
“You like everything just splendid and excellent and nice.” He’s given up on keeping his mouth shut. It’s a pointless endeavor anyway; Gansey always manages to make him surrender. “It’s- it’s-”
“It’s what?” Gansey asks, polite and even. Adam loses his words and just glares, so hard that he thinks he might burn a hole in Gansey’s shirt.
“It’s boring.”

Summary
“Gansey,” Adam says. “Fancy seeing you here, at the local supermarket.”
Gansey just hums, looking both wretched and graceful. He’s wearing a nice, grey wool coat and his glasses have finger-smudge marks on them. His hair looks odd and rumpled – he’s been running his hands through it, then – and his shoes are perfectly shiny. He looks like a breaking-down of the Perfect Gansey, of Gansey poised and primed. There’s a German word for this feeling: schadenfreude. There’s no guilt to it after, which is a nice bonus for Adam. “Small town.”
“Indeed it is,” Gansey says, and says no more.
