Summary
“There’s not enough winter on the outside for you, got to drag it in here as well?” Bucky says, just to break the silence. Steve is putting away his paints and cleaning his brushes, his eyes never leaving Bucky.
“Guess it was that kind of a day,” Steve says, and Bucky knows how much it acknowledges. Steve never likes to even hint that he’s less than perfectly fine, but Bucky knows that winter has never really had any positive associations for Steve.
Bucky finally visits Steve's apartment.

Summary
Bucky knows exactly how it looks; the both of them clearly have just got up and Bucky is still in his sluggish morning mode. He’s wearing a t-shirt that’s a weird fit since it’s stretched into Steve’s shape, and a pair of slightly too tight sweatpants, also Steve’s. Not to mention the tiniest hint of almost healed bruising down Steve’s neck, visible only if one knows how to look, but it’s Natalia. She doesn’t really need to see any physical evidence.
She hops onto the high chair next to him and Steve brings a cup of coffee for her as well. She gives Bucky a very deliberate once-over that makes him squirm a bit, and then grins even wider and says, “I’m glad you finally got your shit together.”
Bucky stayed over at Steve's because he's not leaving unless Steve throws him out. The word travels fast.

Summary
How many things can you learn about another person in a month? It seems as many as there are grains of sand on a beach. How many new things can you learn in a month about someone you’ve known all your life? When it already seems you know everything there is to know about them?
As many as there are stars in the sky.
There are things Steve knows must have been true before, even if he hadn’t known about them. He’d known about the tenderness of Bucky’s hands from when he treated Steve’s wounds or took care of him when he was sick. He hadn’t known about this other kind of tenderness.
A perfectly happy day spent doing nothing but each other.

Summary
It takes Steve a moment to get his eyes adjusted when he steps into the living area, and then he takes the scene in. Bucky sits on the floor in the middle of the open space, surrounded by stacks of files and papers spread all around him. There are binders from their war days, the HYDRA files, SHIELD files on everything they’d had on Winter Soldier and some newspaper clippings. And there are notebooks, scraps of paper, all filled with neat writing, both Latin and Cyrillic alphabet. Several different languages.
“You should go back to sleep,” Bucky says, finally fully acknowledging Steve.
“Yeah, we both know I’m not going to do that,” Steve says. It’s an exchange they have every time this occurs.
Sometimes nightmares mean difficult days.

Summary
Bucky: You better be eating now and not just say you will and then forget
Bucky: I remember it happening beforeSteve takes his time with the sandwiches, smiling at the idea of Bucky reminding him to eat. Even if it’s done by texts and not by strategically placed notes these days, it’s still familiar, and comforting. He has countless memories of Bucky, from a small child to the man with a metal arm and sharp eyes, telling him to take care of himself, chiding him to eat and drink and stay warm. It’s a constant that never seems to change, and Steve always feels warm inside with the knowledge.

Summary
“You’re injured.” It’s not a question, it doesn’t need to be because it is exactly like Bucky to try and not let him know.
“Just a scratch,” Bucky says and waves the bottle at him, sounding loopy but almost smiling. “I dug out the bullet and all, it’s fine.”
For a moment Steve just stares at Bucky feeling like both laughing and crying, because on one hand the smile means this isn’t going to be one of those times when coming down from all this, settling back into normal life is going to be hard for Bucky.
On the other hand Bucky just confirmed he’s been shot.
Just another night and day in Steve and Bucky's life.

Summary
It’s mid-morning when they stumble inside and knock themselves into the door frame, mostly because the opening isn’t really wide enough for the two of them to go through at the same time. There isn’t even need for them to do so, since Steve could walk perfectly well on his own despite the three (or maybe four) broken ribs and the kneecap that probably isn’t quite where it should be. Nothing the serum won’t fix in a day or three. Bucky didn’t listen to him though, not that Steve really expected him to, and supported Steve back to their apartment from the street.
Some unavoidable post-mission care taking, featuring grumpy Bucky and Steve who finds some things entirely too hilarious.

Summary
Bucky coaxes Steve to lie down half on top of him, and it only takes a few minutes for Steve to doze off. Add another few and he’s sound asleep. Bucky feels fairly satisfied with his efforts, noting that there’s still some residual tension in Steve, but it’s slowly seeping away.
Half an hour later Steve’s phone lights up on the coffee table with a text alert, and Bucky picks it up to see if it’s anything important.
Nat: I hear youre back
Nat: Were coming for breakfast btwBucky frowns and fishes out his own phone and sends her a reply.
Me: Whoever that we is the answer is NO
Me: I’m locking the door and turning the alerts offAs soon as he hits send he regrets his word choice, because while Sam or Wanda would just leave it at that, it does sound like he’s having a mood and is saying no just because. Nat usually takes this kind of a thing as a challenge.

Summary
“You’re three minutes late,” Steve says, and flashes his phone.
The screen says it’s 4:18 PM, and Bucky had texted earlier that he’d be back at quarter past four. So technically Steve is right, as well as exactly the kind of an asshole that would point it out. Bucky loves him more than he sometimes thinks should be possible.
This year Bucky wants a quiet Christmas at home.
