Summary
During the height of the Empire's Reign, a young Imperial under Grand Admiral Thrawn's tutelage finds himself under intense scrutiny by the Inquisitors for powers he knows nothing about. Wary of the looming darkness, he is sent out into the galaxy with hopes of finding answers about his past. And a teacher.

Thrawn hummed and let his fingers graze over the feathered ridges of the mask. “Did I ever tell you where I got this from?”
The young man looked back to the artifact. “I don´t believe so.”
“I won it in ritual combat on a small outer rim planet whose people still believed that physical prowess was the most important characteristic of a leader.” Thrawn peered at him intently before continuing. “If I remember correctly, I took on half a dozen of their best warriors before one of their wives saw it wise to intervene. Do you know what I did to her?”
Den´everde glanced to the blood on the face of the mask, splattered across one side and seeped into the material.
A small smile played at the corners of Thrawn´s mouth. “I did not kill her. She was the only one brave enough to try and stop me. She still rules the inhabited pockets of the world under my watchful eye."Series
