The sea doesn’t sleep. In the dim light of the waning moon, the sea continues to tumble frothy waves over the dark, coarse sand. It drags itself back to lap again and again and again. A tireless, constant voice murmuring to anyone who will listen. But Wrecker isn’t listening. Not tonight. His thoughts are occupied elsewhere; his attention honed on the tinny voice valiantly reaching across the galaxy to join him on his weekly beach walk per their years long tradition. Only instead of her little hand in his, a communicator is nestled in his palm, turned to full volume to be heard over the surf.

It’s twilight when the Marauder settles in a spacious, open meadow, the outskirts framed by tall, shaggy trees. Omega peers out the transparisteel, wide-eyed. “What is this place?” she asks, reverently. As though it’s some mystical place instead of a tiny, uninhabited, unnamed planet forgotten in the Outer Rim.
Echo tries to imagine what it must be like to see the galaxy through her eyes, through a lens of awe and wanderlust. No matter where they go or what they’re doing, Omega is ready and eager to experience it all. She isn’t like them: war-torn and wary.
And tired. Echo is tired.

The off-hand comment punctures the hours-long silence between them.
While it wasn’t a question, a response seems expected nonetheless, and Emerie would rather not. Although, Emerie’s been pushing herself to do a lot of things she’d rather not do.
It isn’t that she doesn’t want to make reparations for her role in everything, but, on a personal level, somehow, it is hard for her. Messy, disorganized emotions tangled in desperate obligation. She can never quite put words to it, and she’s spent sleepless nights trying. Her actions will have to speak for her, as they’ve always done. After all, words can lie. Consistent actions and behaviors rarely do.
“It would seem so,” Emerie rejoins carefully.
