Summary
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry!" Zoey wails, splayed out on the floor. "We thought it was dying."
"We did." Mira nods solemnly.
"And you were away for work! And I didn't really know what to do! And I didn't want to ask Celine! So I did the next best thing and I asked the internet!"
[OR: Rumi brings home a wilted houseplant, Zoey and Mira love it back to life.]

Summary
"Derpy," Mira's voice is firm and tired. "Get down from the counter."
He looks at Mira, stops what he's doing, and then proceeds to actually get down from the counter. They all freeze.
"Mira." Rumi blinks. "Mira, he never listens to any of us."
Zoey's standing in the back with her hands in her hair going: "Whoa! Holy shit! It's you! You're the spirit-demon-tiger whisperer! You're our only hope! Maybe he'll finally stop stealing my food!"
OR: Rumi brings a giant tiger home. Unfortunately, he only listens to Mira.

Summary
"$15.25 sounds about right," Mira nods, looking at some sort of menu on her phone, sitting in the backseat.
"Yeah," Rumi looks over her shoulder to face Mira, and reaches out to hold Zoey's free hand. "So about $150 plus dollars for ten wings, makes sense."
Zoey almost spins out on the narrow, two-lane county road.
She turns her head to stare at Rumi. "God, you two drive me crazy—it's $15.25 for all ten! Ten! Over a dollar per wing! Which is, honestly, already so much—"

OR: Zoey finds the most ridiculous chicken wing restaurant on the internet, Rumi and Mira take it personally.

Summary
“Celine gave me that recipe,” Rumi mutters quietly, looking down into her mug and cradling it close. “When I was a lot younger.”
Mira and Zoey both turn around.
“It’s my favorite.” Rumi smiles wryly. “Or was. I haven’t had it in a while.”
“I bet it’s going to taste so good,” Zoey giggles, disentangling herself from Mira to step closer towards Rumi. Zoey takes her mug and sets it on the countertop, Rumi’s arms inevitably find their way around Zoey’s waist. She leans up to kiss Rumi—soft, firm. Grounding.
Just what she needed, because Mira presses ever onwards. “Have you two spoken lately?”
“Not at all,” Rumi admits. “We haven’t—I haven’t—”
She hasn’t figured it out yet. It’s all so nebulous and confusing, the gargantuan complexity of how Celine makes her feel. Or, how Celine feels about her. The bridge between them feels frail and tenuous—if it’s even still there at all—and crossing it feels scary. Terrifying.
And yet,
“I missed her today.”
[OR: Rumi cooks an old recipe for Zoey & Mira, and realizes something very important along the way.]

Summary
Celine finally breaks her silence. "You liked them so much because they're the same color as your hair."
"Did we use to have them in the garden?"
"Yes," Celine hums. "I planted them for the same reason."
"I see," Rumi's eyes linger on the picture for a little bit longer before she turns to Celine. "I wish you told me that."
To her surprise, Celine actually relents and says: "Likewise."
OR: The many ways Celine put Rumi first, for better or for worse, and the one time (through Zoey and Mira's love) Rumi doesn't let her.

Summary
"Which means you," Dr. Choi turns to the other woman, "are my two o'clock appointment. Ryu Rumi?"
"Yes," she says, standing up and extending her hand for a handshake. She has a diplomatic smile on her face, charming and practiced to perfection. Mira can hardly imagine what it's like to be on the receiving end of it.
Dr. Choi, however, is apparently immune. She puts one hand on her waist and looks up at Rumi with a glare. She holds Rumi's client file up with her other.
"Rumi-nim, respectfully, this is the worst intake form I've ever seen in my life. "
Mira holds back a snicker.
Or what if Rumi was werewolf but also was a college professor, and what if Zoey was a vet, and what if Mira had 5 cats and one had IBS too, and they were in a romantic comedy what then

Summary
"Do you think it'll actually make it there?"
Rumi can't imagine that it'll get very far. But the lantern floats on anyway—the small candle at the bottom burning bright enough to make the thin paper walls glow. It's the only other thing that's warm around her—though not as warm as Celine's hand that covers her smaller one.
"It will," Celine replies. She watches quietly as it keeps floating upwards.
Rumi is startled that it keeps going—at how quickly it's climbing—until the flickering orange glow is just an ever-shrinking pinprick.
"It carries our wishes," Celine continues. "Or prayers. Or love, or hope, or luck."
OR: Rumi wrestles with the weight of her love, but only for a little bit.
