But Kunikida? Unless they were in a car chase or needed to be somewhere in a hurry, he abided road laws by the book. And unfortunately for Atsushi, everything just seemed to run smoother whenever Kunikida was doing it. So the car ride was the most comfortable thing in the world.
And then a quick flash in his mind reminded him of the comfort he felt whenever he was rocked and the car was so pleasantly warm like someone wrapped him in a gentle, comfortable embrace and-

A seemingly normal day started going downhill when Atsushi found himself regressing. Just before a case.

Summary
Atsushi, as Ranpo quickly found out some time ago, was an age regressor. That wasn’t his issue; the issue he had with this situation was that Atsushi’s eyes were getting just a bit too wide, his gaze just a bit distant, and now Ranpo had no way out of this.
Not like he had a problem with a little Atsushi. He talked to him once or twice while he was regressed, and he was a sweet enough kid. But on his own? With no way to navigate getting back? The situation they were in was getting a little more unsavoury.A miscalculation when it comes to directions leaves Ranpo and a tiny Atsushi stranded after a case without a way to return to the Agency.

Summary
In all honesty, the kid had no work-life balance at all. It was clear he made many compromises for the Agency- even more for Kyouka. He wasn’t a stranger to struggle, hence the misguided mindset that he could struggle his way through anything.
Then regression stuck on like a leech, and it just wouldn’t let go. Kunikida believed it would be an occasional thing, but Atsushi wasn’t helping it in any way. All attempts to shove it down ended up with him regressed at the Agency, equally inconveniencing as it was terrifying for a young Atsushi that had something out to get him at every turn. Not only was it unsafe, but unhealthy.
That simply would not do.
Kunikida noticed Atsushi had a hard time managing his regression outside of work and decides to visit him to start solving the issue.
