Summary
He was aware that there was a man shouting, sirens in the distance. The car around him was dim, and damp… and cold, but it was solid. He was at an odd angle, being held against the seat but dangling towards the drivers side somewhat. With great effort, he focused his eyes on the blurry world.

Reading this after High Water will bring a whole lot of details into sharp relief. The prologue starts with the worst thing that's ever happened to him. It can only get better from there. Right?

Summary

That was blood.
Pooling under the door.
Vessel yanked open the door and leapt back as the slumped body of a young woman came crashing onto the stone floor of the hallway.
