Summary
Six weeks ago, you had the most devastating one-night stand of your life. Unfortunately, it happened to be with the Congressman for New York's twenty-fifth congressional district, and by the rules of your mother, Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, politicians are strictly off-limits. You knew it was a terrible idea, but you did it anyway; leaving in the morning before he could learn your name, which was almost certainly for the better, considering his committee assignments...
A lot can change in six weeks, though. New York can almost get sent to the shadow realm by an unstable guy your mother pumped full of super soldier serum, for one.
Your mother can also form the so-called 'New' Avengers out of a band of misfits, for another—and you just so happen to be the only one she trusts to watch them, as the CIA's new 'Special Operations Liaison'.
Which means you have the unique and distinct pleasure of walking into a Watchtower briefing room, and coming face-to-face with James Barnes for the first time in over a month.
Oh, you are so fucked.

James Buchanan Barnes—the Winter Soldier, Captain America's best friend (twice over!) and occasional part-time Avenger—glares at you with those cold blue eyes of his, every time you cross paths on the stoop of your shared Brooklyn brownstone, and every time he does, you wish you could just melt into the floor and disappear.
What you don't know, though, is that Bucky isn't glaring. He's pining, and he hasn't pined for anyone since 1945. Everyone uses dating apps and the internet these days to meet people. Whatever happened to just... chatting up a pretty girl, and seeing where things went from there?
...yeah, he also hasn't done that since 1945, either, as Sam is so eager to point out (Sarah doesn't count. He loves to point that out, too).
No wonder you think he hates you. But, hey; at least his cat doesn't!
