Summary
Dean realizes how strange he is acting, waking up Sam who is already clean and comfortably asleep to wash him in the middle of the night. There aren’t even any wounds on his little brother for Dean to tend to.
It’s been a few years—a few decades—since Dean last bathed him. But Dean needs this right now, to feel like Sam is safe and taken care of, and to feel like he is in control of something. After all, he is the big brother: supposed to protect and take care of little Sammy. Even if Sam is taller than him now and more than able to hand Dean's ass to him in a fight.Series

Summary
As Mary was standing barefoot in the corridor of a secret bunker listening to her adult sons’ hushed voices through the thick bathroom door, she wondered how she had gotten here. How they had gotten here.
'Caregiver', as seen from Mary's perspective. Sam and Dean never noticed their mother listening in.

Summary
When Sammy wakes up, Dean is still there in the bed with him, much to his relief.
Sammy spends all morning hovering around his big brother, and Dean lets him. They fall back into their roles easily, everything falling into place naturally. It feels like this is exactly how they are meant to be, despite the new elements introduced to Dean’s care, and maybe it is: Dean, big brother, taking care of Sammy, little brother.
Rationally, Sam knows this is much different from what it was when they were children. Rationally, he knows that really? It’s not that different at all.
