Summary
“My love,” Baelor said, slowly reaching out to grab Maekar’s trembling hand. “He is still four. Childish cruelty towards his siblings and animals is unacceptable, but I cannot help but think he will grow out of it.”
“I would have hoped the same if not for the fact that our son has terrorized half the castle and we have been nothing but blind to it. I will not ruin the boy, husband. He needs to know how to act like a prince of the blood, and not some arrogant fuckwit. It needs to stop now, when he is young and still wanting of our approval. Can you imagine him as a young man at the Red Keep? Cold and capable of violence? They will call him Aerion the monstrous and I will not have that.”

Summary
“But I was the fourth son of a king, I was raised to be cold, infallible. It was…difficult for me to show affection towards you and your siblings, but under the gentle hand of your mother, the gods know that I tried when you were younger.”
And he had. Daeron remembered brief hugs, calloused hands running through his hair, and one memorable occasion when Aerion was being a brat. Maekar held him upside down by the ankle and shook him like a sack of potatoes instead of the dragon princeling he claimed to be. Aerion had giggled back then and Aemon was still around with his beautifully curious eyes and Daella with her mischief and baby Egg and. They had been happy once.
OR
After Baelor's death, Maekar does some soul searching and has a much needed conversation with his eldest son.

Summary
Both Baelor and Maekar froze, lost in the face of a weeping man. Unable to offer even the slightest bit of comfort in wake of his immense sorrow.
“You must not fight,” Daeron muttered. “You must not swing your mace. Uncle’s skull will shatter and he will fall in front of the hedge knight. You will not even be allowed the dignity of a farewell. Father will know of your death only too late. There is no honor in dying for a fool. Your grace, please.”
Daeron had been reduced to begging them, pleading through his endless tears.
OR
