Summary
Marcus shifted his weight, unsettled now in a way that had nothing to do with guilt.
This was nerves.
“There’s… one more thing,” he said.
Kadie looked at him, guarded. “What is it?”
He hesitated long enough that she could see him nearly back out. Then he straightened, just slightly.
“The Yule Ball,” Marcus said.
Kadie did not answer.
“I’m asking if you’d consider going with me.”Three years ago, Marcus Flint called his best friend a Mudblood.
Now he wants a second chance.
Kadie Hartwell does not know if he deserves one. But when Marcus asks her to the Yule Ball, she agrees to one night.
That should be simple.
Except Slytherin does not like seeing one of its own bend. And when Viktor Krum begins to notice Kadie, Marcus is forced into a fight he cannot win with fists or insults.
This time, the worst thing standing between him and Kadie may be himself.

Summary
“You’re talking as though I’m about to walk into some obvious trap because I had one conversation with someone you can’t stand.”
Alyssa held her gaze. “Not because I can’t stand him. Because I don’t trust him.”
“Why?” Kadie asked. “Because he’s in Slytherin? Because he’s a pure-blood? Because his name is Nott?”
“Yes,” Alyssa said.
The blunt, unsoftened answer left Kadie silent for a moment.
“Because names mean things,” Alyssa said. “Because families mean things. And because those families have shown where they stand for years.”
Kadie stared at her. “Theo isn’t his father.”
“You don’t know that,” Alyssa said.Theodore Nott is exactly the kind of boy Kadie Hartwell should know better than to trust.
Slytherin. Pure-blood. Quiet enough to be careful, clever enough to be dangerous, and tied to a family whose loyalties no one has forgotten.
But under Umbridge’s rule, Hogwarts is changing for the worse. And Theo, with his watchful silences and uncertain loyalties, keeps appearing at the edge of things Kadie cannot afford to ignore.
Her friends would rather she stayed as far away from him as possible.
The problem is that she is no longer sure she wants to.
