Around him, the world is a blur. A crudely painted landscape, the lights hanging overhead almost blinding, the rise and fall of voices not helping the dull ache in his temples in the least.
He doesn't know why he's here to begin with. And on a Saturday evening at that, halfway through his second glass of plum brandy at a table in the back.
Olruggio grips the handle tight, the chill and solid heft of the glass grounding him. Wherever he is, sure as hell can't be half as bad as the bloody prison that's his own mind.

Summary
For the past two weeks, painful reminders of that night have seemed to be everywhere.
First, there are the fleeting looks of quiet concern Easthies sends his way when the others’ backs are turned. Eas doesn’t know what happened - nobody will. However, he seems to know Utowin inside out. Seems to know something's not right.
Then, there is the numbness overtaking him when he least expects it, the silence greeting him when he visits in the evenings.
And, most of all, the son of the young couple he often spots while making his rounds - a boy with hair the same flaming red as his own, a year old at most.

That mischievous glint returns to his eyes. He swipes the pad of his thumb along where she's soaking the leather of his glove, clearly all too happy to oblige. The too-light brush of his fingers, coupled with those slow, deliberate strokes along her seam, is a novel torture almost too much to bear.

Even then, she'd tried and tried and tried.
Tried until she was ripping out fistfuls of grass and earth, dirt crusting her fingers and lodging itself beneath her nails; throwing her palm quire to the ground every time she got it wrong. Until she'd stabbed at the page with her wand again and again and again and again and again and again, overtaken by that gnawing frustration, leaving ink spots like spatters of blood everywhere.
Like a damn massacre on the page, as Master Olly had said. That’s what'd taken place. The hell's this, Agott?
Despite herself, she'd laughed through her tears.-
