Fine, fine, fine, fine. Shane can’t seem to stop using that word today.
Ilya hums,
“Good. I am glad to hear this. I never want you to feel bad.”
They’re both talking around the same thing without actually talking about it. Shane’s stomach is in knots. He wants to lay himself at Ilya’s feet and beg:
Just make me do it. Tell me I have no choice. You know I want to. You know me.
(or: shane knows what he wants. it's the asking and letting himself have it that's the hard part.)

"I just don’t want it up to me anymore.”
Ilya is terrible at hiding his emotions from Shane. He’s practically vibrating out of his skin at the idea of getting to spoil him like that. Even so, he levels him with a serious look.
“That is a big change, Shane. We would need to be very careful. Have rules. Communicate.”
The fact that Ilya’s even entertaining the idea means Shane has already won. He tries not to let his giddiness show on his face as he nods solemnly.
“Of course. I know it’s a lot to ask of you, but it doesn’t have to be forever, okay? Not if you don’t end up liking it.” He squeezes Ilya’s hand again with a wary smile, “But I think you will. I think we both will.”
(or: shane asks for what he wants. it's a win-win for everyone.)

Ilya sends him a dumbfounded look, like Shane’s the odd one for being surprised,
“Of course I did. Eventually, we will have real in-person list for you, but since we’re in trial period, the rules will be in Papa’s phone for now.”
“I don’t think we need that.”
Ilya grins as if Shane’s said something particularly hilarious,
“Oh well,” He shrugs, “Not up to you, and I think we do need it.”
(or: shane learns how a hard morning can turn into the best day.)
