Summary
“One more word and you are out on the street, Talis,” Viktor issues his empty threat in his coldest of voices, paired with his fiercest frown. Jayce only beams at him.
“The battle’s already lost,” he announces. “Mel’s approved my time-off ages ago. I got all the goodies,” he rattles the brown bag invitingly, “and Sky’s manning the lab. You’re not getting out of it, V.”
“Out of what?” Viktor demands, in increasing malaise, clutching at his crutch like a lifeline.
“Of fun,” Jayce says, threateningly.
[Or: Viktor's terrible, lovely 32nd birthday.]

Summary
The sanatorium itself looks eerily, spine-chillingly as Viktor had pictured it: a spacious, low building swathed in gauzy light, with white curtains billowing inside the identical, sand-toned corridors, animated by the unrelenting warm wind.
And for a moment, as Viktor stares down the corridor, he has the terrifying feeling of conviction that he is still dreaming. That the dream he’s been having has wound itself back in its recursive loop all the way to the starting point, alerting him at last to the falsity of his supposed reality. Everything strikes him as suddenly improbable: the ceremonial send-off, the miracle-ticket, the flight riddled with stolen affection. Air thickens inside his breast like something too viscous to breathe, and he feels dizzy and paralysed by halves.
Jayce’s hand lands on the small of his back.
[Or: Jayce and Viktor embark on a treacherous journey to Shurima to pursue an experimental treatment for Viktor.]
