Summary
He couldn’t decide whether accepting Lord Rouart’s invitation was strategic or a pure waste of time. Rouart was a man who responded only to flattery and spectacle; he had finally agreed to the number of horses and men Berenger needed, but such men expected gestures in return. If allowing Rouart the bragging right that Lord Berenger of Varenne had graced his gathering could seal the agreement, then so be it.
Of course, he regretted it the moment he set foot in Lord Rouart’s hall.Notes: Berenger’s account from Pet through late Captive Prince: politics, secret dealings with Laurent, old grief, and a final choice he cannot unmake.

Summary
This was not what Ancel had signed up for.
He needed to leave. Grab his things and get the hell out.
He pushed into his chamber and stopped. Everything was already packed.
Roya had folded his life into a merciless order. Silk and jewelry arranged with care. Shirts stacked with cruel precision. Boots wrapped, gloves paired. Even the small things he had not thought anyone noticed. A ribbon. A half-used vial of citrus-blossom oil for his hair. His past months with Berenger reduced to a neat pile waiting by the door.
Of course she had. Lord Rosin had his contract now.Notes: Covering events in Arles from end of Captive Prince through late Prince's Gambit from Ancel and Berenger’s perspectives, where they both put on the performance of a lifetime to ensure the survival of their allies.
Ancel becomes someone he never imagined he would be, and uncovers a hidden world that reshapes how he sees pets and survival. Berenger plays dangerous mind games with the man who shaped him, and learns the true cost of letting Ancel go.
As per usual, nothing goes to plan.
There’s also that slow-moving disaster between them.Series
