3. No one knew who (what?) her father was.
4. She refused to visit the bathhouse, the pool, the beach, or any body of water with them.
5. Her favorite snack was shrimp crackers.Zoe chewed on her pen, eyebrows furrowed. She hadn't wanted to believe that she could have missed this, or that one of her closest friends could have lied to her for so long, but with everything written down and laid out like this, the evidence was irrefutable:
Rumi was a mermaid.

Summary
“Hypothetically,” she asked, “if a demon and a human ever got together and made half-demons, what would we do about it?”
Mira sat up and peered at Rumi. Rumi didn't like that look; it felt uncomfortably like she could see right through her, like she could just tell Rumi wasn't asking an idle question. She was about to walk the question back, to change the topic, something, when Mira's eyes widened. Oh no—this was it; Rumi was done for.
“Oh my God,” said Mira. She narrowed her eyes and pointed an accusing finger at Rumi “You're thinking about having cute babies with that Saja Boy!”
(Or: Rumi tries to delicately soft launch the subject of hybrid human-demons; it doesn't go as planned.)

Zoey was, as ever, moving in hyperdrive: she pushed open Rumi’s jacket, peeled the bloody sleeve away from her shoulder, and blinked. Rumi needed to say something, needed to hide or explain or push Zoey away or just say SOMETHING, but she couldn’t get enough air into her lungs-
The next second there was a shinkal pressed to Rumi’s throat.

This was it. She could do it—she could just tell them. Now that she’d started, there were a thousand different ways she could tell them directly what she needed to tell them, and all of them were probably saner than what she had in mind. But she’d tried that before and literally never succeeded with that strategy.
“I’d like to go to the bath house with you,” she said instead.
Mira dropped her spoon. Zoey’s face lit up like the sunrise over Dokdo.
“I’d like to be less… modest,” she continued, plowing forward with her absolutely batshit, hare-brained plan. “But…. I think, I need to practice first? At home?”

Summary
The photos were a mixture of candid and posed, silly and sweet. Mira and Zoey coo-ed and aww-ed over each one, but Rumi barely heard what they had to say. She usually felt a vague sense of sadness whenever she thought about Miyeong, but for the first time in a long time, Rumi felt genuine grief for the mother she had lost.
“Sooo, are we just gonna ignore that Rumi had purple hair as a baby?” Zoey asked eventually.
Rumi sniffled.
“.... you know what, we can talk about it later.”
