The first thing Zane truly felt was warmth.
It settled deep within his core as he watched Sally embrace her parents. The grins on their faces were so wide that a small, illogical part of him worried that their faces would completely split. His lips upturned in a way that felt odd. A smile. He hadn’t smiled in a year.
A year.
It hit him like a tidal wave, crashing into him and stealing the contentment he’d felt mere seconds ago, the same way that the sea had stolen Nya.
His emotional inhibitor was gone.
And Zane had not compensated for how much it would hurt without it.
