Summary
Jack paused, staring down at the tiny creature cradled in his hands. His subordinate, as attentive as ever, dipped his head.
“Is something wrong, sir?”
Jack hummed thoughtfully, lifting the infant a little higher as he studied the tiny face with quiet amusement.
“This one has... an intriguing face.” He turned the baby's head ever so slightly, examining it from another angle. “It reminds me of myself when I was young. So young, and already so perceptive.”
He gave a small, satisfied nod, as though the decision had already settled itself.
“I can't eat this one. That would be a waste.”
A smile spread across Jack's face, sharp enough to look like it could split him in two.
“Let's save this one for a moment worthy of it.”
