“Jake,” he says, his voice coming out raspier than he’d intended. Jake’s head snaps up, his eyes round. Bradley realizes, as if from a distance, that it’s the first time he’s called Jake by his first name in years. “You look good.”
Jake scoffs. It comes out thick, like something is caught in his throat. “Of course I do, I’m not the one with two cracked ribs, a dislocated shoulder, and a sprained ankle.”

Summary
Jake has a vested interest in keeping the squad together. For one, it’s the first time he and Bradley have been stationed in the same place since flight school. And since they’re really trying it this time, living together and all, he needs to ensure one of them isn’t shipped off on a carrier for months just when they’re getting started. Secondly, he’s got Javy and Nat and even Bob with him now, and he’s starting to see just what everyone was talking about when they tried to drill the idea of teamwork into him for all those years. The creation of a full squadron takes time, though, to work its way through the labyrinth of Navy bureaucracy, and while they’ve all been on special dispensation to stay at North Island since the end of The Fucking Mission, there’s still a risk the plug gets pulled before their official new orders come down to make the Daggers a permanent billing.
Jake can’t let that happen.
