“Why the fuck are you smiling?” Tom snapped, and Tord’s gut twisted. “Like you didn’t have anything to do with this. Like you don’t deserve it.” Tom grabbed the collar of his shirt, yanking him up high to keep their faces close. “Either tell me what’s going on,” he growled. “Or knock it off.”
“I’m sorry, I know you’re upset, but I just…” Tord shook off the rest of a chuckle. “We haven’t done this in so long. And I guess I missed it.”

With a deep sigh, Tom flopped his head down on the pillow. “Shit. Okay.” He dragged his hands down his face hard. “Listen. I know this is crazy. But I can explain.” A thought blinked to life in his mind and he turned his head to face Tord. “Was anyone hurt?”
Tord didn’t say anything.
Tom felt a sickly chill drip down his back. “Tord. Did I hurt you?”
Tord opened his mouth. Closed it. Looked at the wall.
“Tom,” Tord said, his words thick and difficult. “There's something I have to tell you.”
