Summary
They call it a game. But Princess Elaenys Velaryon knows it is not a game, and if it was it was a dangerous one. One wrong step means the delicate thread that ties her new husband to her mother’s side should a war break out, to the Black side rather than the Green, is broken. But in matters of the body, of life and death, and loyalty: lines were due to blur. She anticipates it. Resigns herself to it.
If he wanted obedient: she would give it. If he wanted piousness, Elaenys would give it. She would give anything if it meant her family was safe. Elaenys just does not anticipate that the richest man on their side of the world, the most powerful man without a Dragon, a man who prided himself on his faith and his seat…was just as depraved as he claimed they were.

Married to Lord Ormund Hightower, Princess Elaenys Velaryon must toe the line to balance her duty to her family as well as the unfurling needs of her demanding husband. All the while convincing him that she is very much the dutiful, obedient, and loyal wife he believes her to be to prevent a war between kin.
