Summary
“Oh,” Ned snorts as he lugs the window open, then perches himself on his own desk and sets his drink to the side. “Yeah. MJ calls that our post-bacc. I guess it’s a…little serial-killer-esque, now that I’m really looking at it. Don’t worry, we’re normal.”
Transfixed, dreamlike, Peter takes an unsteady step closer to the Spider-Man board. “What are you guys looking for?” he thinks he asks.
For the first time all night, Ned doesn’t answer right away. Instead, he picks his drink back up and takes a long sip. “Why?” He looks at Peter curiously, voice even. “You know him?”

Summary
“Were you casing us out?”
Peter looks back at her, nonplussed. Swollen eye twitching. “Was I…what?”
“Casing. Us.” MJ annunciates the words clearly. “For your— organ smuggling ring, or whatever.”
“My organ smuggling ring.”
MJ shrugs, watching his confused expression carefully. “Illegal insulin?” she suggests, prodding further. “Street botox for the wealthy-but-not-plastic-surgery-wealthy tennis moms?”
She can see the moment it clicks for Peter that she’s messing with him, a strange familiarness to the way his jaw loosens and his shoulders relax. MJ’s spine prickles again.
“Yes,” he says flatly, craning his neck again towards the door the register attendant disappeared behind. “I was casing your apartment as a possible holding location for my mixed organ-insulin-botox smuggling ring. You failed.”
“Hm,” MJ hums, still not leaning back. “Well, that’s a relief, I guess.”

Summary
“Dude,” Ned hisses, though it comes out more like “Mfphm.” Flash shoots him a look that says both I know and shut up at the same time.
Because slumped there on the dirty ground, limbs splayed across the asphalt like a mangled starfish, costume ripped to hell and back, is Spider-Man.
The same Spider-Man whose face glares down at Ned from Ned’s corkboard every night, milky white lenses as blank and empty as Ned’s list of plausible theories.
He’s dead, is Ned’s first drunken, irrational thought.

OR: Sometimes the cavalry for the strung-out vigilante is you, your high school frenemy, and said frenemy's sixteen-year-old sister. And that's okay.
