With his eyes still closed, he takes one final breath and lets himself go, drifting away into what he hopes is a better place than this one.
He wants to. He wants to follow it. The light. He wants to follow it like he has seen so many do before him.Will he?
Can he?
Humans can. Maybe it is one of those things that only humans can do. It is not something a skinner like him is worthy of.
He tries anyways. To focus on the little dots that cloud his vision. Orange over pink, flowing around in indecipherable paths. It is beautiful. Like a sunset on a summer day, where everything seems warmer, and kinder.
How nice from the Universe to show him such a glimpse of what life could have been, if only just before he leaves it.
He follows the dots wishing they’ll lead him somewhere just as beautiful.OR—
K is ready to die on the stairs of the Stelline Labs. Acceptance and anticipations of what comes after. He’s tired and he needs to rest. He’s ready for it.
What he’s not ready for is Ken, who accidentally interrupts him in his “supposedly” last moments on Earth.

Summary
Driver didn’t have a soulmate.
It was rare to be born with blank skin. A nameless wrist. But it was possible. Some people were cursed like that. Because that’s what it was. A curse.
The world was an easy place to most. Kids grew up dreaming about their perfect future with their perfect partner. With only a glance to their wrists they could see the brightness that awaited them. The happiness that was yet to come. With time they would come across them, the beholder of their name, the incarnation of their mark. And they always matched.
Why was Driver like that? Why was he doomed to be alone? Before Driver became Driver, when he still ate those mint jello sandwiches his mother used to make, he always wondered. But then time passed, and as he became who he was always meant to be, he understood. Why would the universe punish an innocent soul into loving him?
OR
Driver doesn’t have a soulmark and when he’s at the brink of death after the events of Driver (2011) he embraces it with open arms. Waiting to be left to die after a crash on a road in a mid-rural town in Minnesota he is unaware of what the universe has prepared for him. AKA, our boy Lars.
