Driver didn’t have a soulmate.
It was rare to be born with blank skin. A nameless wrist. But it was possible. Some people were cursed like that. Because that’s what it was. A curse.
The world was an easy place to most. Kids grew up dreaming about their perfect future with their perfect partner. With only a glance to their wrists they could see the brightness that awaited them. The happiness that was yet to come. With time they would come across them, the beholder of their name, the incarnation of their mark. And they always matched.
Why was Driver like that? Why was he doomed to be alone? Before Driver became Driver, when he still ate those mint jello sandwiches his mother used to make, he always wondered. But then time passed, and as he became who he was always meant to be, he understood. Why would the universe punish an innocent soul into loving him?
OR
Driver doesn’t have a soulmark and when he’s at the brink of death after the events of Driver (2011) he embraces it with open arms. Waiting to be left to die after a crash on a road in a mid-rural town in Minnesota he is unaware of what the universe has prepared for him. AKA, our boy Lars.
