Summary
Castiel is heading home from his shop after a bad day, and to top it all off, it's raining. He's hungry and tired, and doesn't notice the dog that races out in front of him until it's too late. Castiel trips and falls to the ground, getting up just as the dog gets hit by a car. When checking on the dog, Castiel realizes, this isn't a dog; it's a familiar. And, Castiel just so happens to be a witch with a soft heart, so he takes him in to help heal him. Over time, he starts to gain the familiar--Dean's-- trust. But what was Dean running from in the first place? What dark past is he hiding? Is Castiel enough to keep Dean safe from the horrors creeping up on him?

Castiel’s first mistake was signing up for the mystery spell package.
No, correction: his first mistake was listening to Gabriel when he told him he should sign up for the mystery spell package. Castiel didn’t much care for mysteries, surprises, whatever you call it, having had a fair share of them go awry in his several hundred years of life. He feels his existence is very much complete without anything out of his control or knowledge happening, thank you very much. But, he just had to listen to his brother.
