Summary
“Scott McCall,” the Reaper says. Leans into the microphone, smiles, all fangs. Crinkles the little piece of paper in her hands. Stiles blinks and it’s an arrow, blinks again and it’s in Scott’s neck. There’s blood on his lips and his hands are opening, closing, around nothing. Stiles is standing right beside him but it’s like he’s underwater, sluggish, willing himself to move but he can’t. There’s a hand tightening on his throat, a background roar of voices, and Scott’s eyes on his, wide and so, so dark–
He jolts awake gasping, thrashing, to someone knocking on the door to his compartment.

Summary
They leave Beacon Hills the morning after the Reaping.
He and Derek stand side-by-side in the rear train car, silent, watching Beacon Hills get smaller and smaller. It doesn’t take long at all for the forest to swallow the view.
“Guess that’s that, then,” Stiles says, because some things feel too heavy for silence. “On to new horizons and all that.”
Beside him, Derek acts like he hasn’t heard. He presses one shaking palm to the window, then turns and walks out without a word.
“Okay,” Stiles says. “Nice chat.”

Summary
The tribute parade. Stiles has seen this part before, on the broadcasts, so he knows: it’s going to be blinding lights, a long procession, and more people than he’s ever seen in his life, more people even than at the train station that afternoon, when the eager crowds had swarmed right up to the windows, waving, cheering, aiming cameras, a suffocating and garish mass of bodies. Stiles thinks they look like a bunch of clowns.

Summary
“So, Stiles,” Jen begins. “It’s so wonderful to see you here tonight.”
Stiles squints a little in the harsh stage lights and tries to look cool and collected and not like he’s sitting for an interview in front of more people than he’s ever seen in his life. He’s pretty sure he’s had nightmares that started this way.

Summary
Allison smooths her hands down his chest soothingly. “Just breathe,” she orders. “You’ll do better than you think.”
Overhead, an alarm shrills. Stiles sees black spots dance in front of his vision.
“It’s time,” Allison says, pushing him gently back.
All Stiles can think is “Oh god oh god oh god” on an unhelpful repeat. The glass tube around the platform seals itself shut with a small whoosh, and then he’s off to die.
