Summary
“So you hate your birthday,” Luca muses, smiling at Troy over the rim of his beer.
“I don’t hate it, I just don’t care about it,” Troy clarifies with a shrug. “I just really don’t like being the centre of attention, you know? It’s just easier to fade into the background and not stick out.”
“You don’t really do that,” Luca points out and he’s not wrong. In Toronto he’d stuck out by doing everything he could to fit in, even when it meant being a fucking piece of shit human being. Ottawa has been so distinctly different from any team Troy has ever played on and he’s never felt more like himself than he does here. He laughs with the team, actually enjoys going out with the team, and feels safe knowing that there are people who love him enough to call him on his bullshit without dragging him over the coals.or
The one where Troy doesn't want anyone to know it's his birthday because he doesn't really give a shit about his birthday. Luca helps him enjoy it anyway.

Summary
Ilya simply shakes his head, dropping it back against the headboard.
“Is easy to ignore,” he murmurs. “When everything is…”
“Heavy?” Troy offers gently. “Overwhelming? Too much?”
“Yes,” Ilya snorts. “Yes, all of that.”
“Thank you for asking for help,” Troy says. He knows how hard it is to do that, even when you know the other person won’t judge you and even when you know the other person won’t hesitate to drop what they’re doing to help. He knows that sometimes it’s harder when you know the other person will drop everything to help because then there’s the guilt that you’re disrupting their day.or
The one where Ilya and Troy come up with a system to check in with and look out for each other. Maybe they should have worked out all of the details first.

Summary
"Ah, no," Ilya laughs softly. "No, we have been together for years. Three officially, but uh…"
"We've been together in some capacity since the summer before our rookie season," Shane finishes. "So around ten and a half years."
"Holy shit," Luca breathes. "Hollanov is real?"
"What?" Shane asks, nose scrunched and eyebrows furrowed.
"Nothing! Fuck, nothing. Forget I said anything," Luca sputters, now bright red and turning to hide his face in Troy's shoulder.
