Summary
“Oh,” Dean says, mostly to himself. “It’s you.”
Part of him wonders if Sam has sent Jack out here on purpose, knowing that he would be rebuffed. The other part is calculating the million ways Jack could kill him and the three or four he has to defend himself.
“Yes,” Jack says simply.
There’s something about his manner that reminds him of the angelic Castiel, the one that threatened to throw him back into Hell. For some reason, this makes a laugh bubble up in his chest. Dean forces it back down."
After burning Castiel's body, Jack asks Dean to tell him about him.

Summary
“You gave him a room?”
Sam runs into Dean in the kitchen. His brother has a half empty bottle of Crowley’s favored whiskey dangling from one hand. Sam really doesn’t want to deal with the fallout of a drunk Dean deciding to haul off and shoot Jack in the head, so he tugs the bottle out of Dean’s un-protesting grasp. That’s when he knows it’s really bad. Usually, Dean would be telling him off for trying to baby him by now.
“I’m not gonna let him sleep on the floor, Dean. God.”
He can’t help looking at Jack and finding a reflection of his twenty-year-old self staring back at him."
Post 13x02, Sam and Dean talk about Jack, Cas, and Mary.

Summary
“You just left,” Dean continues, quieter now. “I still need you, Cas. You can’t bail on me now.”
They hadn’t even got time. There had been barely a breath between Lucifer’s possession and the soul bomb and then everything with—with Mom had gotten in the way. He hadn’t even tried to fix that horrible voice in the back of Cas’s brain that told him he was worthless.
“Come back. Prove to me you’re listening and come back. Please. I need you here with me. I can’t do this without you. I don’t want to do this without you.”
Dean is still grieving and Sam...just doesn't get it. 13x03 Coda.

Summary
Mia bites her lip. “I can, if you want. Do it, I mean. Become your mother, for a few minutes, so you can say goodbye.”
“Catharsis,” Dean says quietly. “You think there is such a thing?”
Her eyes drift over to Buddy’s body. “I have to.”
He opens his phone. He hasn’t allowed himself to open his pictures these last two weeks, knowing that what he’ll find will pain him. But the first picture to pop up isn’t of Mom. It’s Cas.

Summary
"Bleary eyed, Dean raises his head. When he locates Cas in the dark, the creases fade again. Cas tries not to read into that.
"You--" He's not sure how to approach this. "You had a nightmare."
Dean rubs at his face. "It's over now."
Post 13x05, Cas and Dean reunite. There's some bed sharing.

"Cas’s breath audibly catches. “I didn’t know if I wanted to come back,” he admits shakily. “And then I thought about leaving you and it was no question at all.”
Dean wants to kiss him, but he’s too much a coward. Instead, he pulls Cas in for another hug. Cas closes his eyes and melts into the embrace.
“Let’s go home. Please.”

Summary
“Don’t you dare—” Cas begins as Asmodeus picks up his cellphone.
Suddenly, it feels like his tongue is curling in on itself. Cas chokes on air, struggling to get another word out, to warn Dean that the voice on the other end of the line isn’t his, but he can’t seem to find his breath.
Asmodeus finishes his call and calls Cas a card to play. And instead of taking it, resigned, like he might have before his latest resurrection, Cas hurls himself at the bars hard enough to make them rattle. He’s not surprised that they don’t give. Asmodeus chuckles—yes, chuckles, like a villain out of those James Bond movies that Dean made him watch.“Settle now, angel.”
Cas yanks at the bars again, more a show of defiance than the belief that he can actually escape."
Cas isn't dealing well with his imprisonment. Across another universe, neither is Mary Winchester. 12x07 coda.

"Sam heads into the kitchen and sets about making a pot of tea, careful not to slam the cupboards and wake Dean. At least one of them has been sleeping better lately.
It’s just—
He can’t get the thought out of his head. Mom, trapped in a parallel world with a Lucifer with absolutely nothing to lose. He can’t sleep properly knowing that at this very moment, he could be ripping her to pieces.
Slowly. He was good at that."Post 13x08, Sam can't stop thinking about his mother.

Summary
“This is the last way I wanted to spend Christmas,” Dean grumbles.
“What?” Sam says. “Really? I always wanted to spend my Christmas hiding from a dinosaur under a tree with you.”
Dean shoves his shoulder. To his utter disbelief, Sam smiles. “Mom’s alive. That’s the best Christmas gift I could have ever hoped for.”

Summary
“I’m new at this,” Patience says in a rush, like she’s unused to admitting that sort of thing.
She probably is. Of course. She can probably do everything perfectly.“I’m so sorry.”
Her voice breaks on the last word. This time, Claire can’t just look away. Instead, she sits down on her bed—well, Patience’s bed right now, anyway—and pats the spot next to her. Patience follows her lead, still trying to fight back the tears. It’s a losing battle.
Claire throws a crumpled up t-shirt at her. “I don’t have any tissues in here.”
Patience sniffs. “I’ve noticed.”
The girls talk about Kaia, and share the guilt.

Summary
“Angel.”
Cas resurfaces from his reverie, in which he was trying to recreate the entirety of the Lord of the Rings extended edition frame for frame in his head from the one time Dean sat him down to watch it. Sue him. It gets kind of boring sitting around all day with only Lucifer for company.
“What do you want?”
Asmodeus looks almost annoyed at his lack of reaction.
“You need to answer this one.”
He holds out Cas’s phone in between two fingers, as if it’s giving off some sort of weird smell. Cas doesn’t reach for it, just in case Asmodeus is just going to yank it out of his hands. Demons get their kicks in strange ways."
Sam and Dean talk about Eileen, and Cas finally gets a chance to text Dean when Asmodeus can't make up a response.

Summary
“I wasn’t in Colorado!” Finally, the full glare breaks through. “I was trapped. Asmodeus captured me.”
Dean’s heart drops into his stomach. Literally. He thinks he can feel the splash.
“What?”
Cas fixes his gaze on the mug. “All those text messages you were getting, all those phone calls. They were Asmodeus.”
His breath catches in his throat. Dean clutches his mug so hard that he’s surprised it doesn’t shatter beneath his grip.
He laughs hollowly. “Well, aside from the ones he let me draft. Those were fun.”
Sam and Dean talk about Rowena, and then Cas returns to the bunker.

“It’s a gift,” Dean says, the corner of his mouth quirking. “You keep those.”
He reaches up, pulls the flap of Cas’s trench coat back, and places the mixtape in the pocket over his breast. Cas expects him to pull away again, but he doesn’t. Instead, one hand rests over his heard and the other curls around the back of his head.
Cas’s breath catches in his throat.
“It isn’t your fault.”
Sam and Cas talk about Lucifer, and Dean re-gives a gift.

“Don’t you dare get high and mighty with me, Dean Winchester. I know exactly what you’ve had to do and sometimes it’s not pretty. Why should you hold me to a higher standard?”
He slams the bowl down so hard that it rattles on the tabletop. The flame beneath the soup splutters indignantly.
“Because you’re better! Because sometimes I think you’re the only thing in the whole damn world that is capable of actually being good!”
Post 13x14, Cas and Dean talk about Cas's decision about Donatello.

Summary
“And you?’
“I’m doing…missionary work in Syria.”
In that he’s completing a mission, anyway. He supposes that it’s close enough to the truth that he doesn’t feel badly about lying to her.
She raises an eyebrow. “You think that’s what those children need? Bibles?”
“I’m helping build a school.”
It slips out before he can stop it. In a weird sort of way, he wishes that’s what he was doing. Instead of searching for some ancient relic he likely won’t find, he could be helping the people who need it most.
He knows they’re saving the world. But it’s hard to believe when there’s still so much bloodshed."

“I don’t see what you’re—” Cas begins.
“We’re getting Dean a gift. Shut up and drive.”

Summary
“This might sting a little,” he announces.
He dunks one of the cloths in the water, wrings it out, and leans forward to dab a little bit of the blood off of his face. He’s not about to let infection set in—he definitely doesn’t need a feverish archangel wandering around, thanks.
“I feel like I’m in a period piece, Samantha.”
Sam just stares at him. “You’ve been sewn up for months and that’s your opening line?”
Another hint of that twinkle. “I’m back, baby.”

Summary
“Gabriel was suffering.”
Cas can’t help himself—justification is in his nature. He’s only recently been able to find a little worth in himself again. It’s hard not to fall back into old patterns, as Dean is so effectively proving right now.
He lets out a derisive snort. “Should have let him suffer.”
“As you would let your brother suffer, I’m sure,” Cas snaps. “You most certainly wouldn’t do anything drastic like sell your soul or stuff an angel into him.”
13x18 Coda. Mary meets Charlie, and Cas and Dean talk it out.

"“Glad to see you took my advice and didn’t get yourself killed,” Dean says wryly at the sound of his light rap on the doorframe.
Cas knows that in Dean Winchester, that means, ‘Good to see you,’ so he doesn’t comment. Instead, he strides into the room and places a careful hand on Dean’s shoulder. A little voice in the back of his head reminds him of Heaven’s flickering light, how he should be saving the power he still has left.
Heaven can wait. The Winchesters need him."

Summary
“You might have forgotten, but Lucifer has been here before. Multiple times. You might be able to sleep easy knowing that, but I can’t.”
Not that he sleeps easy much anyway, but still. Dean might be able to shake that off, but he hasn’t had someone touch his soul in the library or blast bad music from his bedroom.
“Sam—”
“What’s your problem with me wanting Lucifer dead? Last time I checked you weren’t in his fan club.”
Post 13x20, Sam and Dean talk about Lucifer. Later, Cas chats to Dean about Sam and hell.
