Joe remained silent for a moment, curling in on himself and hugging his knees close to his chest as he stared downward in embarrassment. “It’s nothing, Adam. I’m fine.” Joe muttered, still unable to meet Adam’s gaze.
“You can say that it’s nothing over and over again, but I know that something’s eating at you and I’m not going to let you deal with it on your own.” Adam announced seriously, his expression caring but firm.
Little Joe witnesses the death of a friend and struggles with with constant nightmares about it. Thankfully, Adam is there to comfort his younger brother and make sure he gets back to sleep.

Little Joe rushed over to the fireplace and pointed to the wall above the mantle. “Here's a good spot. Mr Connors will see it right when he walks through the door.” the youngest Cartwright declared, quite proud of himself for thinking of the perfect place.
“Alright, but how do you suppose you're going to hang it up there?” Adam questioned with a raised brow.
“You're gonna give me a boost, older brother.” Little Joe explained in annoyance, then his frown formed into a mischievous grin. “unless of course, you can't do it. Maybe you're too old to handle my weight.”
Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe are decorating the house so that an old friend of Ben's can celebrate his birthday at the Ponderosa. Despite Little Joe's complaining, the three Cartwright boys end up spending some bonding time, but Adam is unable to stop treating Little Joe like the baby of the family, much to the youngest Cartwright's embarrassment and frustration.
