Summary
Akk is used to living his life online. Four years at a Suppalo taught him to compartmentalize, finding peace being the diligent prefect by day, and screaming into the void of his private twitter by night, for all of four people (five now. With Ayan) to see.
Aye spends his time in the real world—most days he thinks he’s seen too much. But he knows that, worse than being confronted by the ugly truth, is what can happen when that truth sneaks up on you. And these days, with Akk, he can’t afford to be anything other than vigilant.
Their first year at University was meant to be a reprieve from the unpleasantness of last year, a chance to truly explore the precious little life they were starting to build together. But when they encounter a mysterious secret society that has every student on edge, old patterns they fought so hard to escape begin to reappear, and the differences Akk and Ayan used to find solace threaten to tear them apart.
The Solars have their eyes everywhere. There’s no corner left for Aye to hide, and no void left for Akk to scream. As their safe places dwindle to the arms of the other, they wonder how they ever thought they could be good enough, strong enough, when all they feel is weak.

Situated between them, dumped into an old chipped bowl, are at least a kilo of mangosteens. The purple pulpy carcasses of the tiny fruit lay littered around it while a drinking glass houses the pits.
Akk watches the white flesh of one of the fruits disappear into Shortstop’s pink, purple smudged mouth for a moment before looking away. The heat of summer makes perspiration roll down the side of his neck and he works his violet thumb nail carefully into the deep dark rind of the fruit. Underneath him, he rocks his chair on its uneven legs with a loud click-clack.

He wakes up after an accident, not remembering who he was. All he feels is a vague familiarity with the person sitting beside him.
“You are my Akk,” the man says with a smile and it fills his heart with pain, “And I am Ayan, your fiancé.”
There is nothing that should make him doubt Ayan. There are photos of him and Ayan all around their home. Their families all know each other and their mutual friends drop by at times in the hopes of making him remember his life. But in the stillness of the night, he lies awake thinking of someone. A glimpse of someone he could not seem to catch. Ayan’s smile is not the smile he seeks nor does the love in Ayan’s eyes feel like his. He wonders why the Ayan in front of him is different from the Ayan of his dreams.
