This fic has a LOOOT of exposition before things get started. I sincerely apologize but I couldn't help myself. My obsession with fleshing out the lives of my characters is deep. So, give it around 1500 words to get to any content of a hiccup nature. Maybe I'll put a symbol when the hiccups start so those who are here mainly for that can find them easier.
Otto has a full day that leads to poor eating choices and hiccuping in his sleep. Atticus reaps the benefits by cuddling.

"I didn't want to go," he says plaintively, hating the weak sound of his voice.
"Oh don't be so childish, Sherlock!" John shouts, turning on him. "You ran of your own volition did you not? Nobody forced you!"
Sherlock returns from beyond the rip and discovers the pain his absence has caused.

First Rip AU. Sherlock, John, and Alice all emerged from Hyde Park alive after Alice closed the Rip, and life all over London returned to normalcy. For the occupants of 221B, that meant a return to simpleminded thieves and cuckolded lovers trying to poison each other. Only unlike before, John isn't just working on Sherlock's cases; in secret, now that the distraction of the Rip is gone, he's also been solving one of his own—why it seems the longer Alice's touch lingers on Sherlock's skin, the more ardently Sherlock agrees with her shortly afterward.
Before John can be sure, however, he and Sherlock return from a long case in the countryside to find a pile of packed bags in the sitting room, and from that comes the revelation that perhaps they hadn't stopped all the monsters after all....
