Matilda of the Somnus Bishops and Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, heir to the Duchy of Somnus Hollow, have been betrothed in a surprise arrangement by Brom's father, and Matilda's parents/leaders of her religion. Both are surprised, due to their families' long-term animosity, though they both hope for better. They must decide how they want their marriage to go or risk the shaky peace between their families escalating to a power struggle that would threaten their whole community.

Or for coercing her best friend into saving her by sacrificing his political enemy, the intended victim. Or for what he had down to her mother.

"Yep. Everybody agrees," she said with an even fiercer glare, and walked into the classroom. In his angry daze, he followed without care.
