One of his late night escapes to the rink to try and stave off the nightmares results in an unexpected reunion with an old friend. Aelita, now a robotics engineer with a tight Christmas deadline, looks different, acts more confidently, and makes Ulrich horribly nervous. Together, maybe they can fix more than just Aelita's robot.

Yumi chews the inside of her cheek, waiting for Odd’s rebuttal. He nods along, a crease in his brow deepening.
“He’s not some evil X.A.N.A-controlled puppet anymore,” is his first argument. “The Supercomputer has been shut down for a year already and he's back to his old self. Mostly. If anything, I think playing second fiddle to a megalomaniac computer virus humbled him. And traumatised him a little, but I’m hardly a therapist.”
“Okay.”
“Okay? Not being evil is a low bar for you?”(In which Yumi is protective, Odd is sick of being babied and William is just stuck in the middle.)

A soft click reaches his ears as the door slides ajar, then a brown eye peers from the slight gap in the doorway, "What do you want?" Sissi huffs behind the door.
Odd shoves the box closer to the gap, "I brought a peace offering."
Her brown eye stares at the box for a bit, then the door slides shut. Odd isn't perturbed by this. He takes a deep breath and goes back to humming. The blond knows this is part of the routine, whether Sissi insisted otherwise.
The door slides open completely. Sissi rubs her pajama sleeve at her eye while holding out her hand, "Fork it over."

“After you, Princess,” Ulrich says, cutting into her thoughts. He’s holding the door open with all the air of a dignified knight, though the act is broken when his face splits into a grin. She shakes herself from her thoughts and sends him a soft smile in response.
“My hero,” she says, an old and familiar exchange, but this time Ulrich’s cheeks tinge pink. Her own stomach flutters briefly with butterflies—it’s new and recent, this way she feels around Ulrich sometimes, and she’s been holding that feeling closely and carefully, waiting to put words to it.
