Summary
Hockey magic isn’t just a colloquialism used by desperate fans; it’s a very real, ever-present worry for any professional hockey player. It manifests in different ways, sneaks into a player’s life concealed in the covert form of an innocuous object, a few words muttered under a rival fan’s breath, a candle lit in bad faith. Magic can be used for good and these days, fewer fans tempt fate and shit karma by cursing players, but it still happens on occasion.
The point is, Auston Matthews should’ve known better.
He just never thought he’d be on the receiving blast of a curse himself.
Or, Auston Matthews is struck with a curse meant to make him fall in love with the first person he sees. Thankfully, he wakes up to the guy he's been in love with since he was eighteen. Surely, that renders the curse useless. Right?

In any normal regulation game, picking a goalie for the room is dirty work. Underhanded. Anyone from the outside looking in who may have just heard about the concept of the room even in passing would agree. Out of all the names on the roster to check off with that stubby little pencil the trainer hands over, choosing the one with a G next to it is a step too far from sportsmanlike conduct.

Summary
Being off from hockey for 5 months, give or take, is one thing when it’s the off-season. When everyone else is off as well. Jack couldn’t even begin to imagine Freddie’s situation–being off almost exactly 4 months while everyone else continued the grind. He couldn’t imagine watching his teammates' successes and failures from the benches for that long, being incapable of doing anything more than offering a few kind words while you’re working through your own problems.
When Freddie was finally cleared to be on the ice, finally cleared to play, there was more to Jack's feelings toward him than just gratitude that his teammate was well again. There was something deeper. Something that his wandering thoughts would finally be allowed to bring to fruition.

Auston is about to say something but it dies in his throat as he looks out at the ocean, there are two large blue orbs staring back. Blue under blue reflecting blue.
It all happens very suddenly and Auston is screaming “There’s a boy in the water!” almost getting ready to jump into the water but as he goes to turn back, there’s nothing there. Freddie leaps to his feet and leans over the edge.
“He was- he was right there I swear,” Auston says with a frown.
Freddie huffs and goes back to his chair, kicking his legs out and focussing a disbelieving gaze on Auston.
“Maybe the sun is getting to you too, Mr. Arizona.”
“Shut up.”
