Summary
Horikawa's nights are troubled with dreams of the sea, his lost blade drowning somewhere in its depths: A premonition to their next mission to the Battle of Hakodate, where his (and Kane-san's) former master, Hijikata Toshizo, met his end. Horikawa is determined to do his duty despite his feelings, but Kane-san is having a much greater struggle with his own heart, and Horikawa must suffer the resulting outbursts. Their long partnership is strained and tested as they face their enemy and they both begin to question what it means to have loyalty.
This story is largely a continuation of the second Touken Ranbu musical, Bakumatsu Tenrouden. Though some references to the musical are made, the story is meant to stand alone and can still be read by those who haven't seen the musical.

Summary
Eleven years into the Meiji, it seems that peace is finally here to stay. However, a series of murders in erupts in Kyoto, just as Himura Kenshin and his wife, Kaoru arrive in Kyoto for their annual visit to Tomoe's grave. As Kenshin and the Oniwabanshuu are caught up in the whirlwind, other acquaintances from long ago are pulled in with them. Unbeknownst to all of them, what had been wrongly wrought the past by ex-Shinsengumi member, Ichimura Tetsunosuke is about to return in forms more terrifying than any of them have faced during the revolution.
