Summary
These shorts follow loosely-ordered individual glimpses into Artemis' travels to and fro from Julesvale as she meets and makes good with Scoop, whom she'd met on a previous mission. Scoop sticks out to Artemis in that they are a commoner that has beguiled her, a firelander. Her whole life, she'd been raised to see these people as scum beneath her heel, and yet... here's this nobody from outside the walls, daring to charm her... and it's working. Therein arises an issue, however.
The more time spent in Julesvale– time spent with Scoop– is time spent where Artemis is exposed to other commoners as well. Scoop's friends, bargoers, passersby, and everyone in between. Slowly, agonizingly slowly over time, she is shown their ways. Their natures. Their dreams and aspirations. Their food, their music, their humor, their literature. The more time spent here, the more Artemis starts to realize that... these people are really no different from herself. From other firelanders.
And to her horror, she might even find herself asking..."Are these the same people I've been immolating..?"
