Izuku's childhood was unfortunately a sad one, bullied by all of his "friends" and classmates for his lack of quirk, despite the fact that all facts pointed towards him having a quirk of his own - it just refused to appear.
That is, until he finally had enough and decided to fight back, stopping Katsuki's latest attempt at bullying the boy, which led into his quirk triggering to save him from being too hurt. Looking back, he should probably thank him for that fight, or else he wouldn't have awakened his quirk anytime soon.
