Summary
Bedraggled Edward raises not his crown, and his eyes affix upon Henry’s feet instead. “I have done the deed,” croaks he, akin to a crow, and if hair be feathers, then Edward is indeed a crow—a black omen with scarlet talons, bearing news of foul things. “Did you not hear a noise?” is his inquiry, and his expression begs haste.
“I heard the owl scream and the crickets cry,” answers Henry, and in pleading for his Edward’s attentions, he lays a hand upon his breast, where within his conquest lies. “Did not you speak?” Perhaps his senses regale him of falsehoods, but he doubts; he had bent ear to his beloved’s discordant song only moments hence.
