Peter is the love of her life. They've been together since she was nineteen years old. So what if it's been falling apart since then? It's not fair for the kids, it's not fair for Peter, that Casey would even consider leaving him. There's options, she guesses, but it's not fair to use them. She promised not to turn into her mother. Divorce isn't an option, no matter what Peter does.
Sure, the kids don't see him enough, Peter doesn't call, he never tries to visit for birthdays, he missed their births, but she can't leave him. Casey loves him, probably. Maybe. Sometimes, the thought of what could've happened if she never went home from Paris sneaks into her head, or what if Derek never left, but that's just delusion. This is real life, where Derek left and she's a married, working mother of three while Peter's in London and Derek's in Paris with Sky and the band. It won't become a fantasy world. That's stupid, and pretending that she has an option here is stupider.(or: the post-VWD, pre-LWL fic of Casey and Peter's decaying relationship, while her relationship with Derek gets better.)

“Ben seems perfectly nice from what I’ve heard,” Casey says. “He reminds me of Max, actually.”
“Please do not compare my daughter’s boyfriend to the royal prick you dated who you were convinced you were allergic to,” Derek says as the kids come downstairs. “I’ll lose cool dad points if I have to compare the two in my mind.”
“Who’s a royal prick?” Kai asks, sitting down. Molly, head in a book, sits next to Sky.(or: Sky has her first boyfriend, first breakup, Derek worries for a bit that Luca and Sky are repeating dasey shenanigans, luca punches a guy and Casey ends up teaching sex education. september 2028.)
